When horses are subjected to short duration but high intensity exercise, they lose a huge amount of electrolytes through sweat. Horses in training lose electrolytes with the following breakdown; 2 Sodium: 2 Chlorine: 1 Potassium.
Sports medicine experts have shown that horses running long distances of one to two miles (1600-3200 meters) lose up to ten liters of organic fluids through sweat. In addition, a certain loss of electrolytes occurs daily during training, and in particular during hot periods.
