CONTRAINDICATIONS/SIDE EFFECTS: None known
PHARMACEUTICAL FORM: Paste
USE/ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION: Oral
DOSAGE: 2 cm of paste (equivalent to 14.5 mg of pyrantel pamoate) for each kg of the dog's weight. The content of a 24 gram tube is therefore sufficient for the treatment of dogs weighing a maximum of 30 kg. The palatability of Nemex allows the preparation to be spread directly into the animal's mouth or mixed with food in the case of unsociable animals. Prophylaxis: Prophylaxis is performed to keep the dog free from worms and to avoid the risk of infestation for humans (especially children) by dogs affected by worms. In addition, prophylactic treatment allows the dog to:be more resistant to other diseases; tolerate fatigue better with the consequent possibility of better performances; have a more alert sensorium; have a better general appearance, in particular have shinier fur. Prophylaxis program: 1. Puppies: one treatment at the age of 10-14 days, to be repeated between the 4th and 8th week of age. It is important to remember the primary importance of pre-vaccination treatment since the presence of parasites can interfere with the establishment of solid vaccine immunity. 2. Females: one treatment 15 days before mating; a second treatment one week before giving birth; a third treatment 4 weeks after giving birth. This series of interventions tends to avoid infestation of the puppies during pregnancy and subsequently, after giving birth, through the colostrum and milk sucked by the mother during the first days of life. 3. Competition dogs: one treatment 15-20 days before the competition. 4. Hunting dogs: one treatment 15-20 days before the hunting season. 5. All other dogs: one treatment in early spring, to be repeated in early autumn. Treatment of roundworm and hookworm infestations: treatment should be carried out immediately whenever the presence of parasites is detected and repeated after 2-3 weeks.
STORAGE: Do not store above 25 degrees C. Shelf life after first opening the primary packaging: use immediately.
WARNINGS: In case of difficulty in dosing, for example when it is impossible to weigh the dog, the dose of product to be administered should be rounded up. In fact, the preparation does not fully exert its therapeutic efficacy below the indicated dosage; on the contrary, high doses do not present any contraindications. The drug has a wide safety margin and can be safely administered to subjects of all ages, in any physiological state and in any state and severity of disease. The drug allows, due to its spectrum of antihelminthic efficacy, to intervene in the dog not only for the treatment of parasitic infections but also for their prophylaxis. It should be added that prophylaxis also allows humans, who live with dogs, to avoid any kind of risk. Ascariasis and hookworms fall into this context, causing enteritis, weight loss, dermatitis, nervous phenomena, etc. in dogs. Humans, and especially children, who come into contact with the larvae of ascarids present in the dog's living environment can contract the typical infestation of accidental hosts. The larvae of the parasite, once ingested by humans, do not evolve into adult parasites but sometimes localize in aberrant districts with the formation of granulomas. Particularly serious is the granuloma of the retina and adjacent tissues that can lead to blindness in the affected eye. Overdose: It can be administered in doses 40 times higher than the therapeutic dose and for several days without showing symptoms of intolerance (vomiting, weight loss).
